Homing a Greyhound

What you should know

Greyhound owners say they are a bit of an addiction; either you will end up with more than one greyhound (one simply isn’t enough) or you will find that you just won’t ever want any breed other than a greyhound.
Caz and the kennel team are dedicated to help you find the dog that is right for your home, family and circumstances. If you are thinking about homing an ex-racer please contact us to arrange a visit to the kennels, they will go out of their way to help you find the right dog.

Below is some information on the homing process and what to expect from giving an ex-racing greyhound a home. Naturally, the process will throw up some questions and Caz, the team and our volunteers are always at the end of the phone to offer advice and guidance.

Meeting your new best Friend

If you visit us at the kennels, Caz and the team will take some time to learn more about you, your family and your situation. Do you live in a house or a flat, do you have younger children, do you work and of course what kind of dog you’re looking for. They will then point you in the direction of some of the dogs that might be suitable and you can take them out for a walk. Making that decision about a particular dog may take some time so you might need more than one walk to find the right dog.

Home Check

Once you are comfortable that you have found the right dog for your family and circumstances you will be able to reserve this dog. We will then book in a home check, i.e. someone will arrange to visit you at home to go through some questions, talk about your situation and check your garden to make sure the fences are secure and high enough. Once a successful home check has been completed you will be able to arrange the pick up of your new family member from the kennels.
